Traded in my MGI for CaddyTrek R3!
There are a lot of items to cover in this review so lets start at the beginning shall we?
1. I decided I want to start walking the golf course at age 61 after losing 60 pounds as a way to keep it off. As a rule I like to walk 5 miles a day and have been reducing my diabetes medications considerably. I first went to youtube and watch product demos of the MGI Zip All Terrain I could get from Costco and I did. I was not even aware that the CaddyTrek even was in existence at that point. A friend called me and had lots of questions about it but wanted a Electric Caddy with the ability to “Follow”! The only one I was aware of was the “Stewart Golf Products” that were stupid expensive. Also tech support was not really a US based product nor is the MGI but at least it was sold through Costco and they really back what they sell. Okay so now I come across the CaddyTrek R2 and R3 products a few days after I got my MGI and watched many videos on the new to me CaddyTrek. I called my friend and told him I was taking back the MGI and Placing a order for the R3 ASAP and I raced to Costco with all the boxes and receipt in hand. He did the same and placed the order for the R3 as well. Mine in Blue and his in Red. We did this so as to not confuse what cart we are controlling LOL. Old guys and tech sometimes do not get along. Many videos were watched and much time reading the manual while waiting for the delivery to arrive.
2. Just a few day later after the order was place I received a very STURDY box from FedEx that could have falling out of a truck and did no damage to the inside product. That was not tested thankfully but they do take packaging very seriously. DO NOT throw out the box as you may need it to ship back for any kind of warranty repair or service later. This is noted in the manual as well.
3. Unpacking the box is easy and very straight forward and assembly is simple as long as you spent the time on their YouTube channel. I hope you notice I repeatedly refer to watching videos. Now I bought mine during the fathers day promotion and a lot of accessories were packaged with it. Scorecard Holder which is a must have option and you will not find any better out there as a substitute. A phone holder that clamps to the handle and a insulated water bottle holder that will hold a normal size bottle. Extra water bottles can be put low in a cubby area in the main unit and secured but a elastic buckle as pictured.
4. First setup was easy and straight forward. Binding the remote to the main unit was simple as is all the charging solutions for the main battery and the remote. You are even supplied with a wall adapter for the USB charging cable for the remote. The main charger has nice long cords to reach the main batter easily. I took the battery out the first time to charge as the manual says to charge for up to 6 hours prior to use. I have to say there was enough battery to pair and test everything including the “Follow Mode” before main charging process. Curiosity got the better of me. So all the information I have given thus far is before I have even been to the golf course yet. So lets go there next.
5. I packed up the CaddyTrek in the Travel Bag I received which unlike some others I have had is VERY heavy duty, plus the zipper is of the same caliber. I will have this bag for many years to come. This is another MUST have option to keep you car clean from grass clipping and debris. The R3 is not heavy and can be loaded very easily with the option to even remove the battery to make it lighter. Now I have arrived at the course and the setup was very easy and my bag fit it wonderfully as I did all the fitting prior to the round. So Simple. Watch the videos. I used Remote Control mode to maneuver to the starting area for the first round. I have to say the there was a lot of attention given to this Electric cart as it was the first to be seen there. From that point I began to learn all about the “Follow” mode. The round went as expected. and very enjoyable.
